Mother Of All The Blues

Al Manheim:

The blues were just another tune

A tune to which I felt immune,
But when you turned away

I learned to sing and play

The mother of all the blues,

Unnatural mother,

Unlike any other -- the blues!

My nights, one vast eternal sea,

I drowned in every memory.

The night you crushed my heart

I met that evil tart,

The mother of all the blues,

High time that I kicked 'er,

That boa constrictor -- the blues!

Since that slow, sad refrain

Set up house in my brain,

There's a roof leaking pain

Through a gaping hole

That used to be my soul!

I've lost that stardust melody,

The song I dreamed you'd sing to me;

I feel the cold embrace

Of someone in your place,

That mother they call "the blues."

Unnatural mother,

Unlike any other -- the blues!

When love hit the wall,

I met the mother of all the blues!!!
