Robert Armin
Writer / Director

Robert Armin was a boy when he saw Frank Gorshin in the West Coast Premiere of What Makes Sammy Run?  Shortly thereafter, he read Budd Schulberg's 1941 novel, which quickly became a favorite.  Over the years, he has cherished the Original Cast Album of the musical and has looked forward to bringing Ervin Drake's score back to the stage with a script that more faithfully reflects the character of the novel.  Beginning in February 2000, Armin collaborated with Budd Schulberg and Ervin Drake on revising the show's libretto, eliminating the ensemble and restoring several key characters left out of the 1964 production.

In recent years, Armin has written and directed the New York productions of Letters From The Inside, based on the novel by Australian writer John Marsden, and Stalking The Nightmare, a stage adaptation of several short stories by fantasist Harlan Ellison. He also directed the World Premiere of Side By Side By Seymour Glick, a musical revue featuring the comedy songs of the late Steve Allen, and the acclaimed 1996 New York City revival of Say, Darling, the 1958 comedy with songs by Betty Comden, Adolph Green and Jule Styne. Other New York City credits include revivals of The Male Animal and My Sister Eileen and the world premieres of Soul Survivors, The Computerization of Byron Keats, Love Is Like That, and A Mind is a Terrible Thing To Lose.

He stage managed the world premiere of Horton Foote's Courtship at HB Playwrights and has designed the sound for more than two dozen theatrical productions in New York City and Los Angeles. Armin created the horror-comedy compilation Screemers for RCA Records and, as a recognized expert on the American musical theatre, has written special radio tributes to Betty Comden & Adolph Green, Vernon Duke, Sheldon Harnick, Ben Bagley and Betty Garrett for WQEW on Broadway.  He is currently working on a novel about Edgar A. Poe and is married to musical comedy performer, Kristine Nevins.
