Paul Anka on Broadway |
In
the world of show business trivia, here's a factoid so obscure it's not
even mentioned on Paul Anka's official website! On July 13, 1964,
the 22-year-old Anka began a one-week run on Broadway in the starring
role of Sammy Glick. Anka had just completed a four-week
engagement at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in June, and was booked as the
vacation substitute for over-the-title star Steve Lawrence.
Although Lawrence missed many more performances over the next year, Anka
never returned to the role.
